Nancy Goldstein

I often felt like an unusual student, particularly in high school and entering college. At Hobart and William Smith, I was able to be myself and found my place in unexpected ways. HWS allowed me to pursue my interests and broaden my studies. Initially intent on pursuing religious studies, I found a home in the theater department, and learned a lot of the behind the scenes work of lighting and production. This discovery led to my eventual lifelong work in lighting and design, where now I predominantly work with clients to realize their dream homes. I was fortunate enough at the time to be able to afford college, and now I’m eager to give back. I want students to have the opportunity to take advantage of the Colleges’ interdisciplinary nature and explore their creativity as I was able to. I’m grateful to HWS for many things and fortunate that I can provide future students with that same opportunity through my long-term plans.

Today Nancy is the principal owner and designer of Light Positive. She is a professional affiliate member of the Boston Society of Architects, a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and past president of Designers Lighting Forum New England (DLFNE).

She has served on the faculties at Brandeis University, Emerson College, Suffolk University NESAD, Boston Architectural College, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. She is active in her community, mentoring the next generation of designers and most recently serving with LEAP for Education based in Salem, MA.
