George Wilkinson

With his passion for understanding people and the human connection, George pursued a degree in sociology at Hobart and William Smith. While he graduated in 1963, it wasn’t until his 45th reunion that he decided to give back to his alma mater.

It was then—surrounded by friends, faculty, and students on the Quad—that he realized that the important things he valued about his education remained alive.

“It struck me that after 50 years the Colleges are still open and full of relatable humans who are moving the Colleges in the right direction—all while maintaining the humanity,” he says.

A sign of his faith in the Colleges, George has made the Colleges a beneficiary of a retirement account. “I loved being at Hobart,” says George, “and I want to do what I can to make it possible for people to go to a place like Hobart. If a lot of people give a small amount—no matter what they can give—it combines to make an enormous difference.”
